THE IMPORTANCE OF CONTINUED AND CONSISTENT DOG TRAINING

As you will already know, it is of course very important to ensure your dog’s training continues for the remainder of his or her life.  There are many reasons why we should all aim to have a well mannered and contented companion by our sides, some of which include:

  • Your dog will be able to enjoy a fuller and happier life.
  • You will be able to relax and enjoy your dog’s company at home and in public.
  • Your friends, family, dog walkers and kennels will be keen to look after your dog when necessary.
  • There will be less reason for members of the public who do not like dogs to complain about their behaviour.

Because of this, Co-operative Canines offers practical and effective dog training advice, including the chance to join our training walks, which ensures both you and your dogs continue with their education!

The training walks are open to owners who successfully complete a group training course or a number of one-to-one sessions with me. Please see classes page and one-to-one page for more information on these two services.

In addition to my classes and private training sessions (which both include training in public areas), the training walks are a really useful way to gain more practical training advice whilst exercising your dogs in a variety of public exercise areas so that we can ensure, even when you have finished a course of training with me, that you continue to maintain and improve what you have already achieved.

Apart from lots of practical dog training exercises, these are a popular event which allows you more time to talk with other like-minded dog owners about all-things canine.

Sometimes we finish the walk at a local pub. This is of course only for good manners dog training and not for enjoyment! However, clients do not always do as they are told and they seem to enjoy these social moments, as do the dogs!

It is, joking apart, an excellent opportunity to learn how to settle your dogs and improve their manners so that you can relax and enjoy a drink and meal with friends. We obviously go to dog-friendly pubs and are so lucky to have several of these in the Redhill and Reigate area.

One of the dog friendly pubs which is a firm favourite is The Skimmington Castle on Reigate Heath, which the landlord told me recently is aiming to be the best dog-friendly pub in Surrey.  Apart from a fantastic dog-welcome, you can also buy packs of dog biscuits for a good cause – Canine Partners.

The photo is of our most recent walk where we had a lovely group of six dogs, including a Cocker Spaniel, Chocolate Labrador, Portuguese Water Dog, Golden Labrador, Great Dane and Border Collie.  Also attending the walk and with impeccable behaviour was baby Riley!

As a firm believer in practical and enjoyable training sessions I would love to hear from any dog owners with your suggestions for local dog walks and/or dog-friendly pubs.  Please post your comments – thank you.
